XH A1 Indoors

First working video I shot with the Canon XH A1. The poor indoor lighting didn't pose a problem for video. I used the photo capture device a few times and added a shot here. You can click on it for the full size out of camera image. A poster on The Digital Video Information Network suggested taking the photo captures after the fact while playing back the tape in camera. I'll give that a try and also check out how the photo capture works using various gain settings.

Mayan Ruins

Cancun +4 - Mayan Ruins at Tulúm

Tulúm is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city. The ruins are located atop 12m cliffs, along the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. One of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, Tulum is today a major tourist destination. The bus from our hotel was an hour and half long. The guide, Luis, gave us one laugh after another, a real pleasure to have on board.

On Tuesday we went out for a little shopping. Lots of deals (or what you think are deals) and lots of Mexican culture. Ate at an outdoor cafe and they had some serious hot sauce for the chicken fajitas. Delicious!

Got caught in a heavy downpour on the way back (thanks to me messing up on the bus stops) and caulked it up as another fun memory. Going to try some snorkeling today. Hopefully i can find one of those disposable cameras for diving.

We arrived from Toronto at 4:00 p.m. local time. Not a long flight but close. No Internet in Toronto without paying $9.50.hr so I didn't bother. The Gran Melia Hotel has a network set up for $17.00 USD per 24 hrs. The hotel is world class. Wow! It was close to 30C yesterday and the water was beautiful. Unfortunately the weather followed us from Halifax and it looks like rain in today's forecast.

Cancun Vacation

The trip begins. At the Stanfield International Airport having a java using the FREE (as in not Starbucks) Wi-Fi. Adiós!

Canon XH A1

Happy New Year everyone!



My new Canon XH A1 arrived on Friday and it has a serious wow factor. I still haven't had much time to play around with it but am very impressed so far. Returned the bag I ordered for it due to over kill and picked a new smaller one plus a Porta-Brace RainSlicker.

The still images I can capture from the camera either alone or while recording look usable for the web or newspaper print. Once I tweak the settings and learn how to best use this function I'll post some captures. Same goes for the ability to capture an image while playing back from a tape. Still need to see how those will look.
