Notes: It flew onto our patio and stayed for a while. When I first saw it, the colors were really cool as it was flying.
Distribution: Found in North America from Newfoundland west to south central British Columbia, south to Kentucky and Missouri in the east, and Colorado and Utah in the west.

A moth of the family Erebidae. The species was first described by Francis Walker in 1858. The wingspan is 68–82 mm. Adults are on wing from July to September in one generation, depending on the location.
