Happy Canada Day!
This collaborative artwork, featuring over 80 students’ handprints and graffiti-style text on a Canadian flag, was created for the Thames Valley District School Board Human Rights Symposium to celebrate the Ontario Human Rights Code.
The project was led by educator Robert Ponzio, who used long-handled brushes to allow multiple students to paint simultaneously.Students began by writing their personal responses and commitments directly onto the canvas in Sharpie before painting over it.
The center panel was painted first using thick, horizontal white strokes to build a steady ground for the flag.
