“It is with great sadness that I share the passing of Mike Day on March 1, 2026, just days before his 70th birthday. Mike passed away in the hospital after a battle with lung cancer. We take comfort in knowing that he was at peace, comfortable, and in good spirits until the very end. Beloved by Haven staff, members, and volunteers alike, Mike will be remembered for his warmth and kindness. A Haven client for nearly 20 years, Mike may have been small in stature, but he had an incredibly big heart.”

M Mike was one of the first friends I made when we moved to Toronto in 2016. He was a good man with a big heart and a kind soul. If you were ever downtown near Dundas Square, chances are you saw Mike in his usual corner.

He told me a story about a man handing out one hundred dollar bills to the homeless men, and Mike got one. He said he’d been eyeing a DVD box set of The Fresh Prince of Belair in a local pawn shop for $79.99 and finally got it.

I’m sorry you left Mike.

I hope you’re at peace.
