“It can be coins or sports or politics or horses or music or faith… the saddest people I’ve ever met in life are the ones who don’t care deeply about anything at all. Passion and satisfaction go hand in hand, and without them, any happiness is only temporary, because there’s nothing to make it last.”

Nicholas Sparks, Dear John

I love fixing old things and starting projects to bring something back to life. This summer, thanks to my amazing sister-in-law Shari, one of the projects is restoring an old wooden boat.

The boat was built by The Peterborough Canoe Company in the mid-1950’s; so it’s old and has some rot. By the looks of it, I’d say this was a well used boat that brought a family many wonderful memories and years of joy. Shari told me her dad would take her out on it when she was a child, and I can see it happening again. It just needs some love and a renewed sense of purpose.

This is my escape. My way to find possibilities and work to make something good with my hands. This is what I do to find peace.

Summer is almost on us again and I’m excited for the months ahead. We’ll be sure to post updates on the boat and here are a few photos.

Have a good Saturday and thanks for stopping by, Glen
