“Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.”

Henry David Thoreau

American naturalist, essayist, poet, and philosopher.

I love fishing. I’ve loved it since I can remember. My father took me and my brothers fishing once near Cold Lake, Alberta, probably around 1967 so the Pike were huge! It was exciting beyond words and every time I fish I wonder why I don’t do it more often.

I planned to go fishing on our road trip last year but life and things got in the way. It would have been a chore to make sure I had all the right paperwork and fishing permits from all the provinces and states anyway.

Now that we’re back in Ontario, and my awesome brother has a cottage on the Rideau Lakes, my old favourite past time is back. So far my biggest catch was a 4lb Smallmouth Bass. Beautiful creature (I always catch and release).

Other than that there’s plenty of Perch, Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, and I’m pretty sure I almost had a pike on my line. That and a huge Bass that got away right when he was almost close enough to net.

Hope you’ve had a great summer.
