“For all the toll the desert takes of a man it gives compensations, deep breaths, deep sleep, and the communion of the stars.”

Mary Hunter Austin

The desert is what I hoped it would be. Endless silence, deep black nights, powerful sunsets, and a reminder that life flourishes here amongst the dryness and sand.

Our trip odometer is approaching 9,500 kilometers and by the time we reach Calexico is will pass the 10,000 mark. Our crossing into Mexico will be without our car and camper as we just don’t want the hassle of driving there. If we need to we’ll rent a car for a few days to drive around and I’m looking forward to the break from the road. San Felipe is going to be a great place to chill and write and just be together.

We hit the road hard once we left northern California and the coolness of the coast. Now, here in Joshua Tree, it’s almost 25C at 9 AM. The Red Rock Canyon National Park was amazing, as was the Calico Ghost Town.
