This past Wednesday, I shared Rehtaeh’s story to Ontario middle school teachers at the YWCA in Toronto. I always appreciate the opportunity to talk even if it triggers the hell out of me.

The forum was about bystander intervention and sexual violence. Middle school teachers are on the frontline of change when it comes to teaching children about respecting boundaries and the forum presented a great opportunity to share ideas and strategies.

Plus, I love it whenever I get the chance to listen to Julie LaLonde present.

If you need more information about the issues surrounding consent, this booklet, put together by the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick, provides information and an overview of some of Canada’s laws on sexual assault, and other offences involving sexual exploitation.

Huge thanks to the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres for the invitation.
